Workshop Site

The DARC 2014 workshop is held at the University of Luxembourg, Campus Kirchberg. It is located in the suburb of Luxembourg called Kirchberg, which also hosts various EU institutions, as well as a big part of the Luxembourgish banking industry. Kirchberg is located between the city centre and the airport (both 10 minutes by bus).

Detailed information on how to reach Campus Kirchberg is available here. You may also consult the following map showing the campus (click the link directly below it for a larger map containing a few more landmarks and information).

Travel

Participants from the Netherlands, Belgium, France or Germany may choose to go by train.

Netherlands: Check NS HiSpeed. Connections from the Netherlands to Luxembourg pass through either Brussels or Liège.

Belgium: Check B-Rail. Luxembourg is connected to Belgium via Brussels and Liège.

France: The TGV from Paris-Est to Luxembourg takes only two hours. Other than that, Luxembourg can be reached via Metz or Nancy by TER.

Germany: Check DB. Luxembourg is connected to Germany via Trier. Alternatively, one can take an ICE to Saarbrücken and take the Luxembourg-Saarbrücken express bus to Luxembourg.

Participants that are too far to go by train can go by airplane. The following regional airports can be recommended: the local Lux Airport, Frankfurt Hahn and Charleroi Airport (for the latter two, check Flibco for a convenient shuttle bus service to and from Luxembourg).

Local Transport

There are various bus lines between the city centre and the workshop site. These bus lines are indicated by the sign "EUROBUS" (they also stop at the EU institutions). From the city centre, take any EUROBUS (like line 1, 16 and 194) to Kirchberg. The conference site is located at bus stop "Coudenhove-Kalergi" (this is the first stop after "Kirchberg, Erasme/d'Coque").

Bus tickets come in two forms:

  1. One way tickets, valid in Luxembourg of a period up to two hours.

  2. Day cards, valid for all trains and buses in the entire country

Both one-way tickets and day cards are available on the bus itself (€ 1,50 and € 4, respectively). It is also possible to buy a carnet of 10 one-way tickets (€ 12) or 5 daycards (€ 16) at newspaper stands (like for instance at the airport or railway station). Tickets bought in advance (carnet) need to be stamped in the bus.

When planning to go by public transport, one can use the online travel planner, which covers the entire country.
